Drug and alcohol addiction can be one of the greatest battles a person faces in their lifetime. Striving for and maintaining sobriety is a struggle affecting millions of people around the world, and someone taking the time to perform an act of kindness can make a profound and lasting difference in these individuals’ lives. Hoving Home is an organization dedicated to providing support to women who are engaging in those battles, helping them to find community and engagement in a loving and safe environment. The Home has campuses across the country, including New York, New Jersey, Nevada, and California. Throughout these locations, the non-profit has impacted the lives of more than 20,000 women over the course of 50 years.
Bags of Kindness
Jennifer Summitt, a Random Acts supporter, recognized the challenges women working on their sobriety were facing and wanted to help. Because she understood that managing even the bare necessities could sometimes be a struggle, Jennifer assembled bags of toiletries. She then brought them to Hoving Home and handed them out to 30 women living there. Jennifer shared that the women accepted the bags with tremendous gratitude, and that she received smiles and hugs as she distributed them. She told us, “It was a great feeling to help them and to see the smiles on their faces.”
