As we learn more about the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, it may feel like our communities and lives are overwhelmed with distressing news. During uncertain times, there is one bright spot we try to remember. As Mister Rogers’ mother once said, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”
It is with this ethos in mind that we are launching a new initiative: The Random Acts Support Program.
Helping the Helpers
Random Acts has begun to set aside funds to focus on providing aid to those affected by COVID-19. The program’s goal is to support organizations and groups that are helping in local communities through this pandemic. You are likely already starting to see them pop up in your neighborhood! These can be organizations that are helping by providing food for children who are out of school, providing daycare for first responders, or providing shelter for anyone experiencing homelessness. There are a myriad of organizations all around the world that are helping — and we want to help them.
But we cannot help them if we do not know who they are! That is where you come in.
How Random Acts Supporters Can Help
If you are aware of an organization that is helping those affected by COVID-19 in your community, you can nominate them** to be part of the Random Acts Support Program. We will go through your nominations to learn about groups that may benefit from the program’s funding.
While we cannot fund every organization, we will be vetting each one to make sure we spread our funds to do the most good. By nominating these organizations, you will be adding to our network of helpers, helping to shine a spotlight on the amazing work that they are doing.
It’s Up to You!!
Will you help us find the helpers? You can nominate an organization right now by going here**. If you have any questions about this program, please send an email to RandomActsSupport@randomacts.org.
If you would like to help us by contributing to this initiative, please go here to donate. Looking for other ways to help virtually? Check out our blog post.
Our biggest concern right now is that you all take care of yourselves and your families first. But over the years we have witnessed our supporters help us create extraordinary kindness ripple effects across the world. We have that chance again: to make significant change in a time that kindness is critical. Help us help the helpers!
**As of 8/17/20, nominations are now closed
