A Tiny Act of Kindness is a nonprofit organization based out of Indiana, United States. The organization seeks to provide basic necessities, transportation, and a home address to those experiencing homelessness. The organization focuses on building communities that provide not only dignity and safety but also opportunities. Their current and future program initiatives include job skills training, gardening, woodworking, and crafting for those onsite. These activities engage members, equip them with valuable skills, and grow community self-sufficiency. Nancy Holland, the Executive Director of A Tiny Act of Kindness, often works personally within the community. She distributes items to those in need and brings awareness of the charitable work to social media.
An Act for Warmth
Katie Pfledderer, Random Acts’ former Social Media Manager, saw Nancy’s recent social media post about A Tiny Act of Kindness. With the winter of 2021 fast approaching, Katie reached out to see how she could help. Nancy explained due to the frigid weather, sleeping bags were a critically needed item for unsheltered individuals. Knowing these items would need to offer protective warmth, Katie researched specific sleeping bag types made to withstand 0-degree Fahrenheit temperatures and below. Katie could not travel to make the donation directly due to Covid. Instead, with help from Random Acts, she purchased and shipped the sleeping bags directly to Nancy for distribution.
Katie expressed how grateful she was to work with Nancy, “She has worked very hard to develop her non-profit and invests countless hours giving back and serving [as] an ambassador for the community.” She also conveyed her feelings after the act, “On one hand, I felt grateful for Random Acts and being able to fund such a vital need, but on the other hand, it just goes to show that so much more work needs to be done. Reminds me of all the little things we take for granted but that small gestures, like buying and distributing sleeping bags, can be a small step to make things a little better.”
