Beginning on September 1, 2019, Hurricane Dorian pummeled the Bahamas with high winds and heavy rainfall for several days, causing severe destruction and casualties throughout the islands. In the wake of this natural disaster, Random Acts teamed up with Americares to bring much-needed help to the Bahamas.
Recovery After The Storm
Thanks to the unparalleled generosity of our donors, Random Acts was able to provide funding to Americares, which will install a “Clinic in a Can” on one of the Abaco Islands of the Bahamas. Because the storm damaged most of the healthcare facilities on Abaco, this clinic will provide local residents with critical health services.
An important aspect of Americares’ work is that they prioritize the needs of those directly affected by disasters. The Americares emergency response team and the Bahamas’ Ministry of Health staff and leadership worked together to determine that the greatest need was providing quality health care to the residents of the Bahamas.
The “Clinic in a Can” is a self-contained, modular health clinic that can be set up quickly and maintained easily. A site for the clinic was selected because of its proximity to the city center and the volunteer fire station. This clinic will be used to provide critical care while repairs are being made to the existing health infrastructure in the Bahamas.
The Work Continues
Thank you, as always, to our spectacular donors! With your help, Random Acts and Americares were able to join forces to provide vital hurricane recovery resources in the Bahamas.
Americares is currently working to provide critical supplies, training, and other resources to healthcare workers during the COVID-19 global pandemic. If you would like to support their work, please consider making a donation to Americares!
