It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and Random Acts is celebrating in style! This holiday season, each staff member had $150 to put towards an #RAHolidayKindness act of their choice. Although we encourage spreading kindness all year long, the holiday season is an extra special time to focus on sharing our love, time, and resources with others. We had so much fun making holiday magic happen. It only makes sense to spread the cheer with a blog series telling you all about our staff holiday acts! Let’s see what the Random Acts elves have been up to…
Rather than giving out golden rings or turtledoves, Canada East Regional Representative Ruby Curtis decided to spread some holiday cheer by performing a random act of kindness every day leading up to Christmas.
It all started with a donation to the Sick Kids Campaign, followed by a donation to a local school so that three students could go on a school trip. In the days following, Ruby bought phone credit for refugees, donated supplies to a local animal shelter, paid parking meters, and performed other small acts around town. Day Eight was when everything got kicked up a notch.
“My favourite act of Giftmas was teaching three grades of kids in the local elementary school how to make some artistic cards and bringing them to the residents of the retirement home nearby. I loved that the kids put so much enthusiastic effort into them and that it helped bridge the generational gap. The residents and staff wrote personalized cards back to the kids and the school has since decided to make this an annual Christmas tradition… The kids told me it was their favourite activity in their last week of school. And one boy who received a reply said that his mom had told him that they could go and visit the resident at the home in the new year.”
Ruby finished out the marathon of magnanimity by buying gift cards for coffee for the patrons behind her in the queue and bringing gifts to the children’s ward at the local hospital. She was able to truly stretch her #RAHolidayKindness funds and make a difference in her community during this Yule time.
