What makes the Berkeley County Congregational Cooperative Action Project, or CCAP, so admirable is that it is not run by just one church or organization working on its own. It is a community effort of several churches coming together to serve the people of Berkeley County, West Virginia.
This faith-based group has fed at-risk families, provided rental assistance, helped with utility bills, paid for prescription and dental needs, assisted with transportation and offered many other services.
Their biggest operation is through the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry. In 2018, the pantry distributed a staggering 3,139 boxes of food, which equaled 146,396 pounds. The contents of each box of food is determined by the number of people living in each household. Families from food-insecure homes can pick up a new box of food every thirty days.
Random Acts Joins the Work
With such impressive programs in place, of course we were delighted to get involved. As part of our #RANoHungryChild initiative, our crew at Random Acts pitched in to assist CCAP with their Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry. To begin with, acts proposal officer Shawna and executive assistant Chuck Faustine hit four different grocery stores on a massive shopping expedition that provided many of the items from the organization’s wish list. When Shawna dropped off the supplies, the thrilled staff gave her a tour of the facility.
In addition to the food contribution, Random Acts also provided a monetary donation that was equal to the funds spent at the grocery stores. We know CCAP will use it well.
