The next big Supernatural convention is right around the corner… and we can’t wait to meet you there! From Sept. 22-24, Creation Entertainment’s Official Supernatural Convention will be taking place in Secaucus, New Jersey. Come say hello to our Random Acts staffers, who’ll be in the vendors room of the Meadowlands Expo Center all weekend.
As always, we’ll be partnering with some amazing, noteworthy groups during #SPNNJ; This time around, we’re pairing up with Stands (formerly Creation Stands) and Wayward Daughters to support one of the fandom’s favorite non-profits: New Leash on Life USA.
What Is New Leash on Life USA?
New Leash on Life USA is a “non-profit prison dog-training program that saves the lives of shelter dogs at-risk of euthanasia and gives incarcerated inmates a chance for redemption”, according to its site. The dogs are assigned to live with an inmate 24/7, and New Leash teaches the inmates to train and socialize them via “weekly sessions with professional trainers, animal behaviorists and veterinary technicians.”
The program gives these rejected animals a much stronger chance of being adopted, and helps the inmates acquire real-world skills that increase their employment prospects once on parole. New Leash also provides post-parole support, including “internship opportunities for paroled inmates” to train in animal care. “By rescuing each other, both human and canine graduates of the New Leash program can look ahead to a bright and successful future,” the group writes.
How can I help?
Throughout #SPNNJ weekend, we’re encouraging followers to support New Leash on Life USA by purchasing the following items straight from the organization’s Amazon Wishlist:
- Ziploc WeatherShield 16 Quart Storage Boxes
- Jif creamy peanut butter
- Nature’s Miracle hard floor cleaner
- Pet training clickers
- Petsafe nylon leashes
- Petsafe Easy Walk Deluxe harnesses
- Pet waste disposal bags
- KONG brand balls and dog toys
- Any of the other items specified on the New Leash Wishlist.
Again, please note that you must order the items straight from the organization’s Amazon Wishlist, as there is a strict policy on what can and cannot be delivered to the inmates’ facility. (One exception: you may bring gift cards for New Leash on Life to the Random Acts table in the #SPNNJ vendors room, and they will be delivered accordingly.) Other ways to help? Make a monetary donation online or sponsor a dog ($1,500).
On a tight budget? That’s not a problem either—there are lots of other ways you can get kind and honor New Leash on Life USA. How about giving up your time to volunteer at a local animal shelter? Whatever you decide to do, let us know about it on social media, using the hashtags #GetKind and #SPNNJ. We can’t wait to see what you get up to!
How can I find out more about Random Acts?
Staffers Cinde and Jo-An will be available all weekend to answer questions about our various programs and events. We’ll also have plenty of swag to give away, so don’t forget to stop by the Random Acts table in the vendors room to say hello!
Will Misha be there too?
Unfortunately, our co-founder is very busy and won’t be available for any photos, meet and greets, or autographs outside of his allotted convention schedule. If you’re looking for an autograph or photo, please make sure to check Creation’s social media pages and website for ticket sales and updates ahead of and during that weekend. We also ask that supporters direct any messages or gifts/items to the proper channels and not leave them at the Random Acts table, as space is rather limited.
To get all the latest updates over the convention weekend, be sure to follow our staffers on Twitter, as well as our main Random Acts social media channels.
We’ll see you soon!
