Settling in after an exciting convention weekend in Nashville? Not so fast — we aren’t finished yet! From March 10-13, Random Acts staffers Julie, Sara, and Melanie will be present in the vendors room at Creation Entertainment’s Official Supernatural Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada… and we hope you’ll come #GetKind with us! As always, we’ll be collecting donations for a very special nonprofit while we’re there — and for the fourth year in a row, we’ve partnered with HELP of Southern Nevada in order to do some good for the local community.
What is HELP?
HELP of Southern Nevada was founded in 1969 by the Voluntary Action Center, through the efforts of the Junior League of Las Vegas and the Senior Citizens Resource Center at UNLV. HELP assists families and individuals to “overcome barriers and attain self-sufficiency through direct services, training and referral to community resources,” as stated on their website. Through nine separate programs, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit assists the community in Southern Nevada by providing the necessary resources to better serve “the poor, the homeless and those in crisis” situations.
How can I assist HELP during #VegasCon weekend?
Throughout the convention weekend, Random Acts will be hosting a donation drive to collect the following much-needed items, as requested by the tireless HELP staff:
For the Baby First Services program:
- Diapers
- Baby wipes
Full-sized hygiene items for resident at the Shannon West Homeless Youth Center, including:
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
- Body wash/ bar soaps
- Shaving items (disposable razors and shaving creams)
- Toothbrushes
- Toothpaste
Small, travel-sized toiletries can also be donated, including unused, complimentary hotel toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc). Any additional items, as specified on HELP’s official “wishlist”, will also be accepted. All donations can be brought to the Random Acts table in the vendor’s room, from Thursday morning to Sunday evening.
What if I can’t bring an item?
That’s okay! We know that it can be hard to pack stuff in your suitcase or carry-on. If you’re unable to bring items along or purchase items at one of the nearby stores, we’ll be spending the weekend making friendship bracelets for the kids at HELP and writing kindness cards for the program recipients as well! Come join in on the fun, either way!
I can’t make it to the convention. How else can I #GetKind?
If you’re unable to make it to Creation Entertainment’s big Supernatural weekend, there are still plenty of ways you can embody the #GetKind spirit in your own community! Check out a shelter or assistance program in your neighborhood and volunteer if you can, or spend the day making crafts with kids at a local after-school program (check with the organization first to get details on how you should sign up). You can also take friendship bracelets or kindness cards of your own to various places throughout the community — it’ll brighten people’s days more than you think!
If you want to give to HELP directly, but don’t live in the region, you can visit the official HELP website and make a one-time or recurring donation as well.
No matter what you’ll be doing next weekend, make room in your schedule to #GetKind. And if you’re packing your bags to meet us in Las Vegas? Make sure to stop by and say hello! Let’s get ready to spread some kindness!
Make sure to follow us on social media all weekend, where we’ll be issuing kindness challenges and giving away autographed swag items!
