From its southern twang to the thinly arched leaves on their infamous longleaf pine, sweet Alabama is a homey state. However, according to the nonprofit Hunger Free America, it is also ranked as being the fifth most food insecure state in the United States, meaning that 1 in 5 children grow up hungry. As you have probably guessed by now, Alabama is the next stop in our #RANoHungryChild worldwide tour to diminish childhood hunger.
Connecting to Resources
Director of Operations Jennifer Willis-Rivera has combined forces with the Montgomery Area Foodbank. Despite Alabama being a large state, more than half of its counties fall under the umbrella of the Montgomery Area Food Bank. The charity has facilitated philanthropic, logistic and educational programs that help citizens in those areas connect to both food and resources. The goal is to not only satisfy their immediate needs but to also create a plan of self-sufficiency. All of which is coordinated by a small team of professionals, including fewer than 30 supervisors and an estimated 10-15 unpaid volunteers.
Network of Professionals
Montgomery Area Food Bank has formed a unified network through its continuous efforts to strive towards creating a haven where those in need are provided with nutritious food assistance. A camaraderie has been established between supervisors and volunteers as well as the fourth largest charity in the United States, Feeding America, who has undertaken a leadership role under the charity. Feeding America has been tasked with several duties, which include providing structural assistance when forming the network’s foundation and gathering empirical data to raise awareness to the conversation of food security in the United States. This is a conversation that we deem incredibly important at Random Acts.
Served With Hope
Fundraised donations from Endure4Kindness (E4K) have been used to make both food and monetary donations to Montgomery Area Food Bank. Thank you to our supporters’ generosity. With your help, we made an impact on their ongoing mission.
