Childhood hunger is an issue impacting communities around the world. To continue doing our part to help, the #RANoHungryChild campaign heads out to the western United States. There we get to work with the Utah Food Bank which is feeding hungry children throughout their state.
Feeding Families
The Utah Food Bank distributes food to all 29 counties in Utah, utilizing a network of 150 partner agencies. With 1 in 7 Utah children being unsure where their next meal will come from, the Food Bank operates programs such as the Kids Café, which provides after-school meals, and the Mobile School Pantry, which supplements school meal programs. One such child helped by these programs is Emily, a Kids Café recipient. She lives with her sister, brother, and dad, and loves art, music, and marine biology. Emily shared that, “this food has helped me so much — if I didn’t have the free meals from school and the Kids Cafe meals we get at the library, my family would probably starve. If I could say something to the people who give us this food, I’d tell them thank you very much and that I owe you one in the future.” Though help is never given with expectations, it’s always encouraging to see kids wanting to pay forward the kindness they have witnessed.
Due to the partnerships the Food Bank has in the community, cash donations go furthest in helping feed their recipients. To that end, Random Acts was thrilled to donate $2000 to help feed children like Emily throughout Utah.
Forging Ahead
The Utah Food Bank can turn every $1 of donations into $7.34 worth of food for the people of Utah. To find out how you can contribute, please visit their website.
