New Zealand is a country known for its picturesque views and stunning landscapes. Its natural beauty inspires awe in those lucky enough to see it, either through real-life experience or visiting the fantasy worlds it often represents on the silver screen. Continuing in our own quest to reduce childhood hunger around the world, the #RANoHungryChild campaign heads to New Zealand’s South Island, to the city of Dunedin.
Poverty is a significant issue facing New Zealanders, with many children experiencing increasing rates of food insecurity in recent years. To help with this nationwide crisis, Random Acts Regional Representative Kiri Lenagh-Glue reached out to make donations to two food banks doing different — but equally important — work in the Dunedin area.
Presbyterian Support is an organization that provides a variety of social services to people throughout the country, which includes managing an emergency food bank. The New Zealand Red Cross Migration Programmes aid refugees settling in the area and provide a variety of services to help them begin rebuilding their lives. Both of these food banks provide vital services to local families living in Dunedin. Using funds provided by Random Acts, Kiri was able to purchase a variety of food for both organizations, providing goods for each to package and distribute to their respective communities.
Both Presbyterian Support and the New Zealand Red Cross Migration Programmes rely on community volunteers and donations.
