Not everyone is able to have a wonderful holiday season – humans and pets alike. Animals in shelters and rescues are often forgotten in the hustle and bustle of the season.
Bridget Wenum, HR and Recruitment Manager for Random Acts, wanted to provide much-needed supplies to animals needing a forever home. Animal shelters and rescues are chronically overcrowded and underfunded. Bridget’s act of kindness did not just help the “fur babies.” It also helped to ease a little bit of stress for the rescue workers.
Spreading the Love
Many donations to shelters include food and toys, which are certainly needed. Some of the lesser known but very important needs are shampoo, towels, and blankets. Shelters also need pet carriers for travel and housing.
Bridget’s donation supported animal rescue organizations in Camden County, Georgia, and Nassau County, Florida. If you would like to help animals in your area, consider these organizations:
- Your local chapter of the Humane Society of the United States. The Humane Society strives toward the ethical treatment of animals by advocating against medical testing, illegal hunting, and abuse.
- Cats Angels, Inc., a chapter of the Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals. Cats Angels, Inc. SPCA helps to control the overpopulation of felines in the Fernandina Beach area of Nassau County, Florida. Their Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) program spays and neuters feral cats and returns them to their habitats.
- Shih Tzus and Furbabies, Inc, a national organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of toy breeds and small dogs. Volunteers travel wherever needed to save dogs from life-threatening conditions. Older dogs can live out the rest of their lives in a safe and loving environment. The organization partners with veterinarians to ensure that the rescued animals go to loving homes.
Repaying the Animals
Along with the new items, Bridget’s family donated gently used items like towels, sheets, and blankets. Bridget also donated funds needed for taxes to ensure that every penny would go to the animals.
Bridget is eager to point out that no matter what the agency is, we can be 100% sure that they do it all for the love of animals. As Bridget says, “Animals heal a broken heart, soothe a damaged soul, brighten any day, and they love unconditionally.”
