The world is currently experiencing significant levels of upheaval. Between wars, economic uncertainty, and climate crises, people around the world are looking for places to go that will provide safety and stability for themselves and their families. In the face of such huge problems, even the smallest act of kindness can make a big difference. Here are three ways to show kindness to migrants and refugees.
- Provide supplies to meet basic needs
Migrants and refugees frequently make difficult choices about what items they can take with them. As a result, they often arrive without supplies to meet their needs. Providing things like hygiene products and clothing makes a huge difference.
Get Inspired by Kindness: Random Acts supporter Nadia donated new undershirts to refugees by teaming up with an organization that ships donations to people impacted by the war in Ukraine.
- Donate items to brighten a child’s day
Migrant and refugee children are particularly vulnerable. Toys and comfort items can help them through times of transition and uncertainty.
Get Inspired by Kindness: With the help of Random Acts, Erin was able to purchase stuffed animals for migrant children who were bused from the United States southern border to Washington, D.C.
- Find more ways to get involved
Use your first small act of kindness as a jumping-off point to do even more for migrants and refugees! Erin explained that the funding she received from Random Acts “was essentially a catalyst for my own giving and provided the incentive and focus I needed to actually take the steps necessary to help.”
Both Nadia and Erin participated in our #1KActsRA challenge to do an act of kindness for only $50 (funded by our generous Random Acts supporters). Even small amounts of money can make a big difference! Find local nonprofits that assist migrants and refugees and offer your support.
