From the outside, it might seem like kindness is a simple thing—an occasional good deed, a fleeting gesture. But for people like Krissi, a volunteer at Random Acts, kindness is more than just a fleeting moment; it’s a driving force that has shaped her life in unexpected ways. What started as a small step into the world of Random Acts turned into a life-changing journey of leadership, personal growth, and global impact. Krissi’s story isn’t just about the kindness she spreads—it’s about how kindness transformed her, building a bridge between her passion for helping others and her professional career.
Krissi’s journey with Random Acts began when she was searching for more than just a way to pass the time. She was searching for community, purpose, and a career path that felt right for her. Now, as the Regional Representatives Manager at Random Acts, she helps others find exactly what she found—support, kindness, and a platform to make a real difference.
“I love being creative, finding solutions, working with other team members, which is something I learned from Random Acts. Becoming the Reps Manager was my first leadership experience, and it gave me the confidence to grow in my career,” she shares. That confidence was hard-earned, but it was the spark that led her to where she is today, both at Random Acts and in her full-time role as a marketing manager.
What Does a Regional Representative Do?
Krissi describes the role of regional representatives as “ambassadors for kindness.”
“Our reps are spread all over the world,” Krissi explains, “connecting with supporters and encouraging them to apply for funding or to do an act of kindness in their own communities. They help spread our mission globally.”
The acts of kindness vary depending on the region, but that’s the beauty of the position. Krissi and her team offer guidance and support, tailoring ideas to suit the needs of local communities. “We always give ideas that the Reps can turn into acts of kindness that work in their area,” Krissi explains. From organizing events like Free Acts Week, which emphasizes that kindness doesn’t have to cost a thing, to spreading the message of compassion worldwide, Krissi ensures her team has the tools and resources they need.
A Career Path Fueled by Kindness
Krissi’s story is one of transformation. Before joining Random Acts, she felt stuck in a job that drained her confidence. “I didn’t feel like I could do anything right. I was always blaming myself,” she recalls. But joining Random Acts changed everything. First as a Rep, then as a Regional Lead, Krissi found herself gaining confidence. “I thought, maybe it’s not just me. Maybe I can do things correctly.”
Random Acts wasn’t just a hobby for Krissi; it became a launchpad. With the leadership skills she developed, she landed a new job as a marketing manager in the assisted living industry, a job that aligned with her passion for helping people. “Random Acts completely changed my life. It helped me believe in myself again.”
When she stepped into a management role at Random Acts, Krissi didn’t have previous leadership experience. Yet, the organization believed in her, giving her the space to grow and lead. That trust extended to her current job, where Krissi now leads a team and continues to find ways to help others. “I learned so much from Random Acts—how to manage people, how to lead projects. It’s what made my bosses trust me to take on the marketing manager role when the position opened up.”
Overcoming Global Challenges
Managing a global team is no easy feat, but Krissi thrives on it. One of the biggest challenges she hears from potential international volunteers is the fear that they’ll struggle to connect because they’re not American. “I always hear people say they’re worried about communication or forming a team when we’re all spread out across the world,” she says. But Random Acts has built-in ways to combat that. From alternating time zones for meetings to having dedicated team-building events, the team at Random Acts ensures no one feels isolated.
“I don’t think there’s a day that goes by in our WhatsApp group where no one is talking,” she says laughing. As the interviewer, I then was able to throw our interview off by telling her how beautiful she looked in the red dress she wore yesterday – that’s how connected we are at Random Acts, despite our different time zones. It’s a true testament to how the organization works to foster connections no matter where in the world someone may be.
A Passion for Kindness and Growth
When she’s not working, Krissi spends her time singing—something she’s been passionate about for over a decade—and running pen-and-paper role-playing games (in the US we call these “tabletop” games) for her friends.
But Random Acts is never far from her mind. “Even after I finish one act of kindness, I’m already thinking about the next one,” she admits.
Her favorite part of working with Random Acts? Watching the transformation in others. “We bring people on, and you see them start out quiet and unsure. A year later, they’re confident, reaching out to organizations, and making a real difference. It’s amazing to watch.”
