As a flight attendant, Random Acts volunteer Madison Petro has seen plenty of faraway places. When it came to performing a holiday act of kindness, she wanted to help someone who also felt far from home. Inspired by her own childhood experiences, Madison sponsored a foster child through the organization Friends of Foster Kids.
A Foster Child’s Wish
Madison learned about Friends of Foster Kids, located in Sterling Heights, Michigan, from a fellow flight attendant. “As someone who had the threat of foster care looming over me as a child,” explains Madison, “I felt especially drawn to help these kids.”
Madison’s coworker had volunteered with Friends of Foster Kids and thought it would be a good use of Madison’s Random Acts funds. Madison contacted the organization and received a wish list of items for a child’s Christmas gifts. Being based in New York, Madison used her airline crew discount for the shipment to Michigan.
The Magic Touch
Madison quickly received word that the gift was much appreciated. “Bless you all for the impact you will make,” shared Theresa Toia, the organization’s founder. “Thank you for making Christmas magic happen for this foster child.”
Madison was thrilled to be able to provide everything that her sponsored child had put on his holiday wish list. As Madison says, “This kind of impact is one of the reasons I love volunteering with Random Acts!”
