G’day, “Supernatural” fans! Exciting news: we’re headed to the ninth edition of the All Hell Breaks Loose convention in Australia. Hosted by The Hub Productions, #AHBL9 will take place in not one, but two cities — and Random Acts will be there in both of them!
On Saturday June 23rd, you’ll find Regional Representative Sarah Cavanagh at the Sir John Clancy Auditorium in Sydney. The very next day, Sunday June 24th, both #AHBL9 and Sarah will be over at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre. Whichever location you’re attending, we’re hoping you’ll stop by the Random Acts table to say hello and #GetKind with us!
How can I #GetKind in Sydney?
Great question! This year we’re partnering with Hub Productions to fundraise for Team Mikaere. Mikaere is a 14-month-old boy with a rare genetic metabolic disorder called Nonketotic Hyperglycinemia (NKH). This life-limiting condition affects just 500 children worldwide and currently has no long-term treatment or cure. Together with The Hub and Team Mikaere, we’ll be collecting monetary donations on behalf of Joseph’s Goal, a UK-based nonprofit that funds much-needed research into NKH gene therapy.
I’m going to Melbourne — can I still #GetKind there?
Of course! Just like in Sydney, we’ll be fundraising for Team Mikaere in Melbourne. That’s not all, though — while we’re in Melbourne, we’re also teaming up with the Australian Red Cross to collect goods from its wishlist.
According to its official website, the Australian Red Cross is “is building a better society based on people helping people.” It works “with politicians, policy-makers, organisations and the public to improve the situation of the most vulnerable people in Australia and around the world.” As part of this, the Australian Red Cross provides support for refugees and other at-risk members of the community.
On Sunday 24th, our staffer Sarah will be collecting the following items on behalf of the Australian Red Cross. All items must be unopened, and can be left at the Random Acts table in the Melbourne vendors room:
- Department or grocery store gift cards
- Baby wipes
- Nappies (or “diapers” for our American friends)
- Baby creams
- Toothpaste and toothbrushes
- Shampoo and conditioner
- Body wash
- Deodorant
- Sunscreen
- Moisturiser
What if I can’t make it to Australia for #AHBL9?
No worries — we know it’s a long way for many of our supporters, and there are still so many ways to #GetKind wherever you are! You could donate directly to Joseph’s Goal or make an online donation to the Australian Red Cross. If you’re low on cash, that’s no problem either. How about giving up your time to help out an organization that supports vulnerable people in your local community?
Whatever you decide to do, we’d love to hear all about it! Let us know by tagging @RandomActsOrg on social media and using the #GetKind hashtag.
Whether you live in Australia or you’re headed there specially for #AHBL9, we can’t wait to meet you! And if you’re watching along at home, be sure to follow Sarah on Twitter for the latest convention updates. See you soon!
