We may be into the new year, but our tales of #RAHolidayKindness continue! In the northern United States, winter can bring with it the joy of the holidays, but also a bitter cold. This year, student-athletes at the University of Wisconsin River Falls (UWRF) wanted to bring some warmth and comfort to their community. They chose to do this in the coziest of ways — by making and donating blankets to adults and children who have been victims of domestic violence.
Cozy Kindness
In the snowy community of River Falls, Wisconsin, student-athletes worked together to decide how they could most help their community. Through an educational program aimed at understanding healthy relationships, they learned of a local organization called Turningpoint. This crisis shelter helps victims of domestic and sexual violence who have had to leave everything behind to find safety. The student-athletes at UWRF wanted to bring some measure of soft, snuggly support to these individuals. Therefore, 30 students worked together, creating blankets in a variety of colors and patterns to donate.
It took only one hour (!) for all of these blankets to be created, allowing for the delivery of cozy kindness. The students at UWRF were pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to accomplish something that could help others, and found joy for themselves in providing comfort to their community.
A New Year of Kindness
We here at Random Acts are so grateful for your continued support throughout the holiday season, and throughout the year! If you have enjoyed our #RAHolidayKindness series and have become inspired to spread kindness in your own community, please consider proposing your own act of kindness or making a donation. UWRF students have shown us how easy and enjoyable it can be to have a positive impact on others. Let’s work together to make 2020 the kindest it can be!
