Random Acts has a long-standing history of working closely with GISH, a scavenger hunt run by our co-founder and board president Misha Collins. GISH hosted a mini-hunt over this past Halloween weekend. The list of scavenger hunt items to complete was full of things to make you learn, laugh, create, scare, and inspire each other—all while maintaining a healthy social distance.
Item #60 included one of our most recent initiatives at Random Acts: #Snacks4Voters, part of a nonpartisan humanitarian effort meant to ease some of the difficulties U.S. voters face waiting in long lines this election. Gishers were asked to donate directly to Random Acts to help fund the snacks for voters. They could also hand out snacks and bottled water while maintaining recommended COVID-19 safety guidelines.
Change a Life
Along with offering Monster Makeup Tutorials and expert pumpkin-carving lessons via Zoom, GISH always has several kindness-themed items as part of the hunt. Random Acts has partnered with them on some incredible things over the years, particularly our Change A Life projects. This year, as Random Acts celebrates 10 years of creating kindness in the world, GISH has stepped up for us once again.
2020 has presented some unique challenges, and GISH is right there with Random Acts to help where it is needed most. That is to say, everywhere. Between dealing with pandemic, economic, and ecological hardships, there is a lot of work to be done. According to their GoFundMe page:
“Random Acts strives to ‘conquer the world, one random act of kindness at a time’ by empowering people to help each other. Over the past decade, this 100% volunteer-run organization has taken on ambitious projects like building a children’s center for orphans in Haiti and helping Syrian refugees, but they also help in less high-profile ways that still mean the world to someone, like buying sneakers for a child experiencing homelessness. No matter the size of the project, the central purpose of Random Acts has always been to facilitate kind people helping one another. So in this moment of historic crisis, we want to pool our resources and build up the fund that empowers you to help those most in need in your communities: the General Fund.”
At the time of this writing, the amount raised has totaled just over $60,000 so far! Gishers earned points in the scavenger hunt by showing Random Acts “some 10-year love” and getting 10 individual donations from people not on their team to their CharityGoFundMe page. We are grateful for our amazing partnership with GISH as well as our enthusiastic supporters. Random Acts is thrilled to see what comes next as we continue our mission of kindness.
