One of the best holiday gifts is not something you can hold in your hands. It is the gift of time spent together having fun and making memories. Cynthia Petersen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, gave this gift to her community through an event that brought together families and friends to share holiday cheer.

Cynthia loves to give back. She is always excited when she gets to help people, especially kids. For the holidays, she wanted to provide a relaxed and fun atmosphere where kids could have fun and create wonderful and lasting memories with their families.
Cynthia was grateful to the Cedar Rapids Library for donating the use of their event space. The holiday event invited kids from the community to decorate cookies with sprinkles and icing, visit with Santa, and win cool prizes. The kids also received fun goodie bags.
“As you can imagine,” Cynthia laughed, “sprinkles and sugar were everywhere!” There was a great turnout, with around 150 people attending.
A few parents shared that they appreciated the event because they had not been able to do much for Christmas. Cynthia believed the free event and prizes helped families who might not have had more time and resources.
Cynthia’s act of kindness gave kids a chance to get out and have fun with their families for Christmas. What a wonderful gift!
