A group of high school students served up cookies and joy when they held a bake sale to spread kindness through their school. Random Acts supporter Alexa Muchnick, a student at Robert Louis Stevenson School in Pebble Beach, California, spearheaded the event.
Alexa is a member of the Happiness Club at Stevenson School. The club’s goal is to spread kindness across the campus and the local community. “This act seemed like the perfect idea for our club because it seemed like it would spread happiness and kindness to everyone involved,” explains Alexa. The happiness spread to the club itself, who had a great deal of fun baking the goods.
The club chose a non-profit organization to donate half of the sale’s proceeds to. The other half will go to support other activities the Happiness Club will sponsor.
Pay It Forward
Alexa says that everyone at the school was excited for the baked goods. The sale was also a good opportunity to spread information about the work of Random Acts.
The Happiness Club thought it was heartwarming that some people paid in advance for the next person to come along, creating a random act of kindness within the Club’s act of kindness. Those people took their treat and then paid for the next person, keeping the cycle of kindness going.
Alexa shared that she felt really happy during and after the sale, saying that it gave her hope that the community was kind and cared about making the world a better place. She was also impressed at the work that the club put into the project to make it a success, since it was all driven and run by teenagers.
Hundreds of people at the school had their day brightened by the bake sale. The Happiness Club is excited about the kindness their future projects will bring.
